Making One Power BI Measure Appear In Multiple Folders

Back in 2018, when I wrote a detailed post on how to create nested display folders for measures in Power BI, I mentioned that unlike in Analysis Services it was not possible to make a Power BI measure appear in two or more folders simultaneously. The other day on Twitter Deepak Agrawal pointed out that at some point since I wrote that post the situation has changed, so here’s a quick post showing how it now works.

Nested Display Folders In Power BI

The ability to add columns and measures to display folders in the new Modelling view is one of my favourite features of the November 2018 release of Power BI Desktop: it makes complex models a lot more user-friendly. Being an old-school SSAS developer, I immediately wondered if they worked in the same way that they do in SSAS – and the answer is yes and no.

Microsoft Dynamics NAV – Get File Count from a Folder using Dotnet.

Today I want to discuss a code re-write that I had to do on a recent project about file handling.

Scenario –
PDF will be saved in a shared path whenever a purchase invoice is printed. To Generate File Name we were using Purchase Invoice No. and then extending that with an integer.

Configuring Power BI Gateway Data Sources For Files And Folders

Recently I’ve been building a lot of Power BI reports from csv and Excel files, and to make sure that scheduled refresh works I have been setting up data sources in an On Premises Data Gateway (what used to be called the Enterprise Gateway). I had assumed that if I was connecting to file-based data sources in my Power BI dataset then, in the gateway, I would need to set up one data source for each file that I’m connecting to – which is a bit of a pain.
