Adding Semesters to a Calendar in Power BI

I have delivered Power BI training at a number of universities over the last 6 months, and a few of the participants asked me the same question. “What is the best way to add semesters to a calendar so that they can analyse student data by semester?“ There are various ways of solving this problem. Toggle Overlapping Time Periods using the Calendar Table

I had a great question pass my way last week while I was at the Microsoft Business Application Summit. The problem presented by Matt (a different Matt, not me) was that he had around 200 measures already written, but wanted to be able to toggle the report pages between YTD and Full Year data. For the sake of this article I will be using Year to Date (YTD) and Moving Annual Total (MAT) as the 2 toggle events.

How calendars are considered when calculating lead times

Lead time calculation is the calculation that takes place to calculate “Expected Receipt Date” from the “Order Date” or the other way around. Similarly, sales have the calculation to calculate “Planned Delivery Date” from “Shipment Date” or the other way around as well. Here, we will be focusing on the Purchase side but this will have same explanation for the Sales.
